Have you been shaken to your core before? Kayla grew up in church loving Jesus. She led worship for her youth group worship team and even recorded an album of music that got playtime on local Christian radio. When she came to the university, however, her story is similar to many other college students. For many students it involves philosophical or theological challenges, but for many like Kayla it is social challenges; buying into the lie that the university has to offer that their version of life is better than the life Jesus has to offer. Kayla came to school, got a boyfriend, started partying, started drinking and by the end of her sophomore year she (like a lot of other Christian students) had never gone to church, never gotten involved in a campus ministry and spiraled into a deep depression.
Fortunately, for students like Kayla, there are campus ministries like Chi Alpha whose sole purpose it is to help college students connect with their God given purpose in Jesus Christ. For Kayla, it came through a Chi Alpha student who lived on her hall. When Kayla hit this deep depression, she came to this girl who had been praying for, loving her, and inviting her to Chi Alpha. Kayla came to a female small group with this friend where she met other awesome Christian girls, began to get discipled, and gave her life to Christ. Kayla became a worship leader for Chi Alpha and now is using her musical gifts in the marketplace, making a difference for Christ in the lives of thousands.
Kendra and I are so privileged to be a part of the lives of students like Kayla, to help reach and equip the next generation of leaders. Some of these leaders do not know Christ yet, some are international students who will go be leaders around the world, others are Christians like Kayla who have fallen away from their God given purpose.
We have already begun to see stories like Kayla’s begin to form in the first three weeks of classes at San Diego State where we are pioneering a brand new Chi Alpha campus ministry. We believe God has big plans, but we need you to be a part of it. In order to do ministry full time at San Diego State, we have to raise 100% of our budget. To get there, we need $1000 more in monthly pledges from individuals like you.
Today we are launching our 100:10:1 campaign. There are 100 days left in this year and we are believing that over these 100 days we can add 100 people who will partner with us for $10/month for at least 1 year as we launch our ministry. We believe that your gift will make an impact in 1, then, 10, then 100s of students for Christ as we are launched into full time ministry.
Some of you may want to take a bigger chunk of this goal than $10/month, you are welcome to, but as much as our goal is to raise $1000/month by the end of the year, we also want to “raise” 100 people believing, partnering and praying with us for San Diego State. This would not come with 1 person supporting us for $1000/month. There is power in the body of Christ coming together and there is power in the widow’s mite. I believe as you do this God will bless you, not just financially, but with a special grace to pray for us and our ministry from a new place of passion as you invest not just prayers but your finances as well.
Will you stand with us? Will you champion our ministry to a few other people who might be willing to stand in the gap? Will you pray for this campaign and our complete budget to be raised in the next 100 days? Will you pray for these partnerships to result in student’s lives being changed by the 1s, the 10s, and then by the 100s?
