Setting Your Face Toward the Goal A Ministry Update from the Kertsons
In the book of Luke, the author narrates to us that Jesus set his face resolutely toward Jerusalem. Jesus knew the Father’s plan for him was to go to the cross and to die for the sins of the world. He knew along the way he would be betrayed, he would be denied, and he would be beaten down. He also knew that he would see the sick healed, the broken hearted restored, the blind see, and the sinner set free. These thing would happen both on his journey toward Jerusalem and after he completed his journey. Jesus is still rejected, disdained and spit on today. But lives are likewise still being transformed by the power of the death, resurrection, and the name of Jesus. Jesus knew what the Father had called him to and so he set his face toward it.
For our family at Chi Alpha San Diego State, we are setting our face toward what we know Christ has called us to. It has been 10 months since we were first announced we’d be heading to work at San Diego State, 3 months since we moved to San Diego, 1 month since students began classes and yet the goal still lies ahead. We are on the journey to make this ministry a reality. Like Jesus, along the way we have had glimpses of what is ahead. We have connected with students, they have eaten at our house and we have prayed with them. Just this last week a student named Clayton showed up at our house at the time students come over for dinner once a week. We’d never met him, he had heard about us from a friend in church who had never come. We got to know Clayton, share life with him a little and pray for him. These are only foreshadows of what God wants to do. They are laying foundation. So, we set our face toward the goal.
Our goal is launching into full-time ministry by the Spring semester, January 23, 2015, having raise our full budget, having hundreds of people partnering with us in prayer, encouragements, and passion. Our goal is to launch two small groups in the Spring, begin leadership development of key leaders, and discipleship of those who are in small groups to become the future leaders of Chi Alpha and eventually our churches, business, and government. Next Fall we hope to turn these two small groups into four, two of which would be student led, and to start a worship celebration where these small groups come together to tell testimonies and get encouraged to keep making an impact in each other’s lives and the lives of those on campus through high impact outreaches and living Christ in the midst of the college community.
We are setting our face toward this goal and many more and we are not looking back. What has god called you to? What are your goals to make this a reality? Who do you have walking with you on the journey?
